3DBear, a Finnish edtech company pioneering the use of 3D Design in Augmented Reality, has completed its second closing, resulting in total $1,5M in funding raised to date.

Second closing brings in another US VC, LearnStart, in addition to an earlier investor Rethink Education. LearnStart is a part of LearnCapital that has invested in numerous notable education companies such as Coursera, Singularity University and EdSurge.

Combining Finnish pedagogical knowledge to top-notch technological expertise 3DBear has resulted a great product that can be used to teach both academic subjects and 21st Century skills such as Design, Problem Solving, Collaboration, and Computational Thinking.

3DBear is in the frontline with its easy-to-use smartphone and tablet app. Apple announced their native support for AR last year, and Google is following their lead. Facebook has announced support for 3D models in their platforms earlier this year.

“We invested in 3DBear because we believe in their product and team. In the long run they want to build a product that makes 3D design and modeling easy and fun for everyone”, says Don Burton, Managing Member of LearnStart VC.

“We’re very excited to continue expansion to US market. Students find 3DBear AR lessons fun and engaging, and teachers find that they are not constrained by physical limitations of 3D printers”, Kristo Lehtonen, CEO of 3DBear, summarizes.

The “3DBear AR” application is free and can be downloaded from both AppStore and PlayStore.
